Creative. Modern. Quirky. Awesome. These are some of the words which could be used to describe the photography by Steve Gerrard...no not the footballer (as he also quotes in his twitter bio) :)
Last week I had the privilege to attend a wedding photography workshop run by the amazingly talented Steve. I have been a huge fan of Steve's work for many years. He is one of the best wedding photographers in the Midlands, in my humble opinion - take a look at his awesome photographs on his blog. Not only a great photographer...he is also a very nice guy!
On Steve's website he describes the workshop as "A full day packed with info, shooting, processing, food, drink and lots of laughs." It certainly was...and more!
The day was split into two halves...or a game of two halves...sorry, that's the other Steve Gerrard! ;) In the morning we were at the Fazeley Studios, a few minutes walk from the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. I was with a great bunch of people, photographers from London, North Wales, South Wales, Telford, Birmingham, Bedfordshire, Kent, Wolverhampton...and France! Here we listened to Steve talk about his work, his style, and how to find the right clients amongst other things. It was also an opportunity to ask Steve anything we wanted to know...and I would like to thank him again for being so generous with sharing his knowledge of the wonderful world of wedding photography!
After lunch we hit the streets of Digbeth armed to the teeth with our SLRs of the digital kind! We are talking URBAN...with a capital U. What an amazing backdrop for photography! It is graffiti galore in the area that surrounds the Custard Factory. In Steve's own words "this is my studio". Up until recently, Steve did in fact have a studio at the Custard Factory. However, he will be emigrating to Montreal, Canada, with his wife Evelyne and their three boys in the near future.
The bride & groom models for the afternoon were John and Hannah, who are actually married in real life. John is also an awesome wedding photographer when he's not modelling! ;)
I am still buzzing from the day! It was like a tonic to spend the day with lovely like-minded people...people who want to create amazing photographs for people like you :) I am always hungry to learn, to learn new techniques, to better myself...as with any industry, occupation, or profession, we should never stop learning. The moment we stand still, and become complacent, is the moment we go backwards.
Thanks again Steve for a fabulous day of learning, laughing (and a few beers in the evening)...YOU ROCK!!!! I wish you and your family all the best in the next chapter of your lives! It was a privilege to attend what may be your last workshop before you leave Blighty! It was great meeting all the other photographers...and thanks to Facebook we have all kept in touch :)
Here are a few photographs that I took on the day...
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you visit again soon to see my latest work. If you would like me to photograph you please contact me via my website, Twitter, Facebook, or give me a call :)
