Fordhall Organic Farm on the outskirts of Market Drayton, north Shropshire was the awesome location for Charlotte and Oli's marriage celebration on Saturday. To say that I was excited about their special day was an understatement! During one of our pre-wedding meetings Charlotte and Oli gave me a guided tour around the farm and showed me the motte and bailey site where their Handfasting ceremony was to take place, which overlooks their farmland and the beautiful Shropshire countryside as far as the eye can see.
As well as this they told me that they were having tipis in the garden of the farmhouse, a tractor to transport their guests across the farmland, and live music during the ceremony! :)
Charlotte looked stunning and made her entrance to 'Love you till the end' [The Pogues] performed by Jack Marshall, Kirsty Marshall and Kelly Brammer...with Fordhall bathed in beautiful sunshine. There was also a performance of 'It must be love' [Labi Siffre] before a fantastic grand finale of The Proclaimers' 'I'm Gonna Be' (500 miles) with everyone joining in!
Well...what an amazing ceremony! :) Here's a quote from Carole Higgins, the celebrant from Shropshire Ceremonies:
"Oli and Charlotte really didn't want anything usual or standard about their ceremony, and as I set up Shropshire Ceremonies to give couples the chance to have a bespoke and totally personal wedding ceremony - we were a great match! We worked together on the content and and I wrote the words especially for them. Together we came up with something that all 3 of us got excited about! We based it on the ancient tradition of 'Handfasting' and as Oli and Charlotte both care very much about the earth and natural elements, it was something they could identify with. My favourite parts? watching Charlotte walk towards Oli with a glowing smile on her face (which stayed put all day long!) and the Blessing of the Rings - as I held their wedding rings up, the sun shone on them and the breeze blew across the ancient site - totally awesome!"
There was more live music after the ceremony in the garden courtesy of the brilliant Jack Marshall, Kirsty Marshall, Kelly Brammer, and Rebecca McIntyre, which added to the fabulous atmosphere!
I also have to mention the food...which I was lucky enough to sample! It was all fresh locally grown produce...which can be bought from the Fordhall Farm Shop.
In fact the farm and farm shop are run by Charlotte and her brother Ben. Ben manages the livestock on the farm, the farm shop, hog roasts and his catering trailers and Charlotte does the bookwork for the farm whilst her day job is managing the Fordhall Community Land Initiative (FCLI), the trust that owns the farm. Oli is such a popular guy he had not one, but two best men! Some of the guests had even travelled all the way from the USA and Australia!
Here are a few of my favourite photos from Charlotte and Oli's perfect day! :)
